Editorial Review for Mimma's Cafe – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
More than a decade ago matriarch Mimma Megna opened a tiny storefront cafe. Now, after two expansions, this eatery has developed into one of the busiest restaurants in the city. Fifty different pastas will drive the indecisive crazy with an almost endless variety of shapes and sizes loaded with fresh meats and seafood. The tiramisu is first-rate. End the meal with a gelato from Mimma's nephew's machine.

Best sicilian restaurant I've been to, outside of Palermo. I've been at Mimma's many times, needless to say it is my favorite in Milwaukee and I always recommend it to all my friends. The food is extraordinary and the wine list will satisfy most wine aficionados, (check their selection of Grappa, is great!) and to save the best for the last, Mimma is a gem of a hostess.
Pros: everything, including the parking across the street
Cons: none

Not having a clue on where to go to dinner on a Sunday night in Milwaukee, I read the Milwaukee Guide in my hotel room. I read about a number of restaurants, but still couldn't choose, so we got in the car and started driving around. We finally saw so many of the restaurants I'd read about, we decided to get out of the car and start walking the street. We checked out all the restaurants by eye and chose Mimma's Cafe. We were even lucky enough to get a table by the window overlooking the street and all the people out walking their pets and shopping...even on a Sunday evening. Our waitress was wonderful and suggested we try the wine flight. A selection of 3 delicious wines. We had fun deciding which was our favorite. Our food was grand and was definitely authentic Italy...Mimma does the cooking. I had the Taglietelle alla Favorita, which was black pasta with scallops, shrimp, crab and sun-dried tomatoes with porcini cream sauce...out of this world. I couldn't possibly eat it all though since the portion was so large. And since I was on a business trip, I couldn't take the rest home with me. We were so happy to have found Mimma's, and although there are so many great Italian restaurants out there, I think Mimma's will remain one of my favorites.
Pros: Wonderful Italian food and ambience. Also great wait staff.
Cons: Can't think of one.
