Milwaukee Athletic Club.
Our family group, all from out-of-state, occupied four rooms for two nights to attend a wedding. All of our rooms were very nicely decorated, traditional style, and were large--one was a suite--with very comfortable furnishings. Exceptional bed linens and high-quality thick towels equalled those of any 5-star hotel.
The athletic facilities were outstanding, separate men's and women's, on different floors. The large pools and sumptuous locker rooms, showers and dressing areas, plus well-equipped exercise rooms made us wish we had more time to use them. We did enjoy our morning swims, alone in the pools since it was Labor Day weekend.
The club is ideally located in a lively part of downtown--many ethnic restaurants a block away and the River Walk a few blocks toward the downtown shopping area. It's an easy walk to the lakefront where we watched the 10 a.m. opening of the wings of the spectacular Calatrava (art center). An amazing sight!
We were shuttled to the wedding at the Pilot House on the lake by a delightful woman who picked us up for the return promptly after our call. We didn't need to use our cars while there and 24-hour parking was only $10.00--unusual for a busy downtown area.
Downtown Milwaukee is a great place to visit and I highly recommend staying at the MAC while enjoying all if it.
worst hotel rooms. a group of us were in town from chicago for a friend's wedding which was held in the hotel and decided to reserve a hotel room there as well. the halls in which the wedding and reception were held at in the hotel were beautiful, however the hotel room itself was awful. the overall appearance of the room was sub par, but in addition to that there were no towels in the bathroom, a continuously dripping shower faucet, the teeny 19" tv was about 15 feet away from the bed, and it had a distinctive old person smell. later on we also saw that there was mold growing on the window treatments and there was a bloodlike stain on the sheets. while we didn't take advantage of the health facility, the hotel room itself was not worth the money. also, we didn't find out until after we were leaving that the parking was $10 extra whereas we could've parked across the street for $3. the only possible saving grace, which we were not able to use anyway, was that the health club was said to be "gratis". Apparently that either means "included", or "the only reason someone would come here". either way, don't waste your money on a room.
