This popular restaurant serves Puerto Rican and Mexican cuisine. The food goes well with the merengue and salsa dance lessons..
The Scene
The folks at El Babalu want everyone to learn to salsa and merengue. To that end, the restaurant hosts Latin dance classes and workshops throughout the week. The weekends are packed, due to the live music and well-versed DJs; the fairly steep cover charge is indeed worth it.
The Food
El Babalu serves a bountiful lunch buffet, the perfect chance to sample items from the Puerto Rican and Mexican cuisine that is their specialty. For dinner this is a terrific stop if you're planning on topping off the tank before going out on the town. Remember, though, just like the rules for swimming, you can't go dancing until half an hour after you eat.
Dish to Die For
The steak with green and red peppers and fried plantains.
