My first pizza was at Di Marinis when I was in Bay View High. At that time the operation was a whole family enterprise in the now defunct building at 2457 S. Wentworth. At that time "Pa pa Di Marinis was in charge. HIS PRODUCT WAS ADDICTIVE. The characteristic flavor of the sauce was unmistakeable. Our typical order was for cheese and sausage and the meat product was also lavishly applied and rich in ethnic spices. The crust was always just one way.....THIN AND CRISP.
You sat down and gave a simple order. "Cheese and sausage", PERIOD.
that has all changed as or today. This past Saturday I went to Phil and Dom's Di Marinis Pizza on Conway and were so disappointed that we will never return. In recent years we found that you had to tell them how you wanted the pizza done. Wouldn't you think they would have it down after 50 years. So after we said "thin and crispy and well done ", we would have gotten the cracker thin crust and rich well cooked sauce we remembered and were expecting. Quite the opposite....the crust was thick and soggy to the point of limpness . The sauce was, to be kind, akin to Campbells tomato soup concentrate and warm but not hot and certainly not well done. The meat was a little less that in years past, not as flavorful but, I would say passable.
In short what I am telling you is that if you go to DiMarinis and expect the "OLD FAMILY RECIPE" you aren't going to get it. The original tase is un mistakeable and the current product is a far way from what PaPa produced. The current DiMarinis product is lacking even when compared to Dominos.
I now live in Arizona and whenever I am anywhere near Milwaukee, De Marinis is a definate stop. I can never remember anything but good food and great service. I can't understand the negative comments. Can't wait till I go again.
Compelled – I've not been compelled to write about a restaurant until visiting De Marinis in Conway Street. While the service was friendly and adequate the food did not meet my expectations. The garlic bread was a thin slice of Wonderbread with a semi-melted slab of cheese and a bit of parsley for decoration. The cheese, sausage, mushroom pizza had very little sauce and lacked flavor. I would not recommend or return to this restaurant.
lets be real – I have to tell you the pizza is great, but there is one problem the area has been invaded by gay s and manic earth saving lefties that think they can save the world. I would like to see one customer of that entire area that has purchased a bullet or served in the military ? But if you are an a what hmmmm well i dont know thank God for the Patriot Act, try the pizza and get out. Rush L. M. Belling, G. W.B ush and the rest of the Americans... be safe and defend, the program will not let me say George B ush
Disappointing Food and Service – On Sunday evening, November 16th, our party of four stopped in for dinner. The restaurant was not busy and we were seated immediately.
We each ordered one drink and appetizers of Deep-fried Mushrooms, and an order of Mozzarella Sticks, both of which were badly overcooked.
Two of us ordered the Shrimp Basket which was a Special, one ordered Lobster Ravioli, the other Meat-Filled Ravioli. Everyone had a small salad, which was included in the meal price.
The tiny, pale salads came so overloaded with dressing that the 'greens' could not be seen. Each of the Ravioli (about 4 each) dishes came in a plastic bowl big enough to be a trough, which was so swimming in sauce that we had to fish around to find the hidden Ravioli. The Shrimp Baskets were overcooked.
Our waitress had to run back to the "Special" board to find out what was offered, and had to ask the kitchen help every time we asked her a question about the food.
The cost for this unappetizing 'meal' was $72.00, plus tip. We all agreed this was a waste of our time and money. We could not have been more disappointed in the quality and service and they will not see us again.
GOOD PIZZA – On a good day the PIzza at Dom and Phil's is up there with the best pizza anywhere. On a not so good day you can get a pizza that is "blackened" (burned to a crisp) or raw. You never know what you'll get when you walk in. It varies from day to day and even pie to pie. There just isn't the quality control there once was in the kitchen. But when it is good, it is very very good. Whenever I come back into town I have to have my fix of DiMarinis pizza. The boys need to consider making pies to ship to loyal customers who have moved out of town and shipping them frozen overnight by Fed-Ex.
Avoid this restraunt and go with other Italian places – Erratic terrible food. We go here about 10 times a year and food is very erratic every time. It was so bad this Friday that we won't be going back ever again. We ordered salads, zucchini, mozzarella sticks, large pizza, lobster ravoli, pitcher of beer. The zucchini, pizza, and mozzarella sticks were soggy, terribly limpy, and oily. This tells me fryers needed to be changed and cleaned. Salads were plain, no toppings with loaded dressing for $2.25 which should have been $1.00. Beer was ok but warm and could have been served with ice cold mugs. Waitress knew we were mad but didnt ask us how the food was once. The pizza was just so limpy it was disgusting and the sauce on the lobster ravoli was way to much it took out the taste of the lobster. Just very bad food and service again. When you order a pizza crust should be crispy not soggy and appetizers should be crisp and not oily. Beer should be cold and salads should have more toppings for 2.25 a salad. We wasted $60 again at this place and won't make that mistake again. They need to manage this place better and clean up the kitchen mistakes and equipment. I wouldnt recommend going here at all unless you like bad food and service.
badabing – Fantastic food, nice atmosphere, and a great bar. Best pizza in Milwaukee/Bay View
Mama over Bros. anyday! – Dom and Phil are not the original Demarini's Pizza or do they have the original recipes. Mama's is the original building, with the original owner still there. I tried DeMarini's food and it's ok, but it's not even comparable to "Mama Demarini's.
The thick yummy looking layer of cheese that topped this pizza ended up tasting like melted candle wax. It was very bland
