Not as good as it used to be.
We had dined there last night for a fish fry - and we were quite dissapointed.
We started with some shredded onion rings which were pretty greasy. Both ordered the perch dinner - 1 with potato pancakes, and 1 with french fries. While waiting, our waitress(es) never asked if we wanted another cocktail, or aknowledged my wave for her to come over. Dinner came in about 20 minutes after ordering. The perch were perfect triangles of fish. The coating was very thick - crunch on the outside and undercooked on the inside. We had asked for a few more lemons - never got them. There was very little fish - it was all breading. Not once did the waitress even come back and ask us how everything was. We told her the fish was not very good, and all she said was "I'm sorry - did you want change?" referring to the $50 that I put out there for a $31 check.
This place used to be very good, but it has changed - not only in quality of food - but also quality of service.
Good place for a beer. Benno's is a no-frills bar and and restaurant. The beer selection is top notch, with a nice variety of Wisconsin microbrews. Be sure to check out the Friday fish fry. It's busy but the homemade potato pancakes are worth the wait.
