The Best Pizza For the Past Four Decades. Like some of the other reviewers, I grew up eating Maria's Pizza. It was something we looked forward to and one of the few takeout dinners my hard working parents could afford to feed a large family. 40 years later, my teenagers adore Maria's Pizza. It's still the best pizza I've ever eaten, including the pies I've tasted in Chicago and New York City. We prefer to call in our order, but the kitschy, funky, light-up-your-life, religious decor inside is classic.

The only real negative to Maria's is that the pizza is so amazingly good, that the wait times, especially on the weekends are sometimes several hours, so call early. There is no parking lot, but plenty of street parking, on Forest Home Ave. and side streets, is readily available.

Maria's Pizza is unlike any other pizza I've ever eaten....paper thin crust that one can wrap up like a soft taco and eat, very little sauce (but somehow the amount is perfect for this pizza), and huge chunks of tasty Italian sausage. We don't like a lot of toppings, but for people who do, their portions are very generous. I start salivating every time we go in the place; it's that good.

Maria's is still a great deal. I believe a large cheese and sausage (which is much larger than a standard large, taking up two circular cardboard pizza trays) is $13. We usually buy two and eat the leftovers the next day.

Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Located on the south side of Milwaukee, the eatery serves homestyle pizzas in a quaint restaurant that has a historic feel.

I Keep Coming Back!. When my brother and sister and I were young, we would chant, "George Webb hamburgers, P-I-Z-Z-A!" whenever we were hungry and "fast food" was in order. Of course, in the early 1960's, our choices were limited when it came to fast food. Maria's Pizza was the ONLY pizza we ever had back then, and I keep coming back, almost 50 years later. My mouth waters just thinking about the taste of the sausage and the crunch of the crust.

Although many of the paint by number religious paintings are still a part of Maria's decor on Forest Home Ave., I'll always remember walking into the parlor on 7th and Greenfield and seeing the art work on the walls. I think that visual memory, as well as the incredible aroma and wonderful tastes, are some of my favorite food memories as a child.

Thanks, Maria's. I'll keep coming back for more.
