Out & Out LIARS.
I made the mistake of going into this store just to look at the puppies. I feel in love with a beautiful bulldog girl, for whom they were asking $2400. Bulldogs are never cheap, but $2400 is crazy.
I asked for her breeder name, which they gave me and assured me it was a reputable breeder & also told me she was APR registered. Now I know better than to buy pets at places like these, but I felt like I needed to save her. After I got home I researched the "breeder" who is actually a puppy mill in southern IL. (JEAN WAGLER) I aslo found out that the APR is a bogus registery used by pet stores to charge more for pets. I printed off hundreds of cases against the so called breeder, information on the scam that is the APR, and took it back to Puppy World. Playing dumb I said I was sure they knew nothing about all of this but here is what I found & I would love to buy the puppy at a fair price in order to give her a nice life because according to her breeding records, she probably wouldn't have a long one. I was given ever excuse in the book as to why I was wrong, the information I found was wrong, their breeders are all very reputable (although I had cases of abuse and neglect printed out & in their hands.)
I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to give them the chance to do the right thing. They failed.…
Please do not purchase from this dealer.
You may have purchased a puppy from this dealer before, and that puppy may have been perfectly healthy and lived to a ripe old age. Regardless, you shouldn't purchase from this store.
The store is supplies solely by Puppy Mills, which are places that breed puppies without any concern for inbreeding, properly maintaining proper lines, preventing genetic ailments, or preserving the health of the animals.
They will improperly breed animals and claim that mutts are pure breed if they "look close enough". They will hide known genetic conditions and risks from you as well. Not to mention they over charge... by a lot. They claim the dog's are by certified breeders, the certification is USDA (which if you are not familiar, are the people that regulate food) USDA only regulate puppy mills, as opposed to reputable breeders which I regulated else wise.
If you notice, each of the cages are barred on the bottom, and the puppies are given a very small amount of available space. Dog's in science lab's are given better conditions than this. I don't know how they get around the requirement by state to include a non barred platform from which they can rest... but this store has none.
Besides that, the store is small, limited in supplies for a place dedicated to one animal, and smells pretty bad. The animals are not taken care of and are simply there to sell overpriced as quickly as possible. As stated, they are not given any vet care, and often have genetic problems.
If you want a dog, try the Humane society. Every dog that comes from the humane society is neutered, given veterinary care, they give you free food and a free vet visit with adoption, the animals are almost definitely healthier, their temperament is examined, they begin to receive the beginning stages of training. They are walked regularly.
I have been to both places, so I plead with you, please do not support these puppy mills any longer.…
The Best Family Member. Im over people bashing pet stores, i don't think puppyworl should be one of them. I do agree there are some that are bad!!! This one isn;t!!! My boyfriends family has a shih tzu that is 17 from there, and my family bought a cairn terrier from ther a year ago, and is th greatest dog ever. I moved due a job change and came back, and decided to buy an english Mastiff from them, Lumpy is very healthy and is affectionate. By the way this breed is known to be shy, and he is far from that.…
We purchased TWO GENETICALLY DEFECTIVE PUPPIES from them!!!.
We purchased a chihuahua from Puppyworld in June, 2009 for $1000. About 4 months after having her, she stopped using her left rear leg. We took her to the vet to find out that she has a genetic
condition called a luxating patella, which means that her patellar groove is too shallow to hold the ligament in place while she walks. She needed immediate knee surgery which costed us $900 and put her in a lot of pain for 4 months until she finally healed up. Unfortunately, this is not her only genetic defect. She was also born with a collapsing trachea, which has been quite a challenge. Every time she gets out of breath or excited, her trachea collapses, rendering her unable to breathe. There is no cure for this disease, so every time it happens, we have to pick her up and blow in her mouth to get it to open again. Needless to say, our chihuahua is not the healthy dog Puppyworld claimed she was.
Unfortunately, this story gets worse. A month after purchasing our chihuahua from Puppyworld (before the problems had started with her), we bought a second dog from them... an adorable pug for $1100. Her story is absolutely tragic! Unlike our chihuahua, our pug's problems didn't show up right away. We had her for about a year when she suddenly started peeing all over the house. Of course, we assumed she had a bladder infection so we took her to the vet. Because she had had 2 other bladder infections before this, the vet wanted to get an Xray to make sure her kidney, ureters, and bladder were okay. To his surprise, our pug had a much more severe problem... she had severe congenital hip dysplasia. Our vet told us that in his 30+ years of practice, he has never seen such horrible hip dysplasia in a dog so young. The reason she had been peeing all over the house is because her malformed hip bones kept sliding all over the place, and they pushed on her bladder. He also explained that her deformed hip bones have been rubbing together for her entire 1.5 years of life which has caused extensive bone remodeling and arthritis. Our pug now needs total hip replacements on both sides, and we just got a quote from the Orthopaedic surgeon in Madison for $9000! Unfortunately, we do not have that kind of money, and are likely looking at having our poor, sweet little 1.5 year old pug put to sleep if we can't come up with the money :(
The worst part about this whole thing is that the staff at Puppyworld were incredibly mean and nasty to us when we told them about our pug's hip dysplasia. The staff at Puppyworld say "we cover hip dysplasia in the first three years" as a selling point. What they don't tell you is that their idea of covering hip dysplasia is giving you store credit toward a new puppy. How can they think that a puppy is replaceable? We don't want to replace her! We want to fix the puppy we have!!! She's our baby, and she is irreplaceable!!! Since we have no interest in getting another genetically defective dog from them, we asked the manager at Puppyworld if we could please have cash back for our puppy so that we can put it towards her surgery. She was soooooooooo nasty to us! She told us that we are "cheap asses" and that its not her problem that our dog is malformed.
We tried contacting our pug's breeder to see if there was anything they could do to help us cover our pug's surgery. It turns out that there is no way to contact the "breeder" because the puppy came from a large puppy mill in southern Iowa. There's not even a way to contact them!
The people at Puppyworld are nasty, dishonest criminals!!! They purchase poor, sickly puppies from puppy mills for cheap and then sell them to poor, unsuspecting people for thousands of dollars! PLEASE do not purchase a puppy from Puppyworld! We need to make a stand against this horrible business that is built on deception and lies!!!…
