This rustic inn offers delicious shrimp and steak, and an escape to the country without leaving the city..
The Scene
Located in a quiet park in a residential neighborhood, this log cabin-like inn features pine boards and a glowing fireplace. Picture windows provide a wonderful view of the nearby woods.
The Food
The atmosphere is indeed pleasant, but it's the abundance of good things from Chef Zacker's kitchen that keeps the tables filled. To start, try the grilled Gulf shrimp appetizer with diced tomatoes, basil and roasted garlic, drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil. Entrees include steer filet with garlic and sherry-soaked mushrooms, and shrimp and scallop pasta with tomatoes, mushrooms and artichoke hearts. The special pork chop T-bone is flavored with various rotating sauces, like sweet apple-brandy sauce.
A nice getaway. Most Milwaukeeans don't know about Pleasant Valley Inn, but it's certainly a nice place to celebrate an anniversary or promotion. It's cozy and quiet; ask for a table by the fireplace if you go. The food is always delicious and the staff is professional. One attraction is the variety of selections, especially the number of fish specials. Go early and sit in the bar to enjoy a glass of wine or scotch. Once you find it, you'll see why it's known as a getaway right in the heart of the city.
