Best Burgers. Get there early for lunch. They added more space but it still gets busy.
nice place. They have the best boody mary. (w/celery, olive, shrimp, lemon slice, cheese, sausage, pickled aspargus spear, mushroom, and onion as its garnish. The Sobelman's Burger was good,. The bun was great. Onion rings appetizer was average. All in all, its was a nice meal.
Average bar with an average burger.
Like many here I stopped by in search of an awesome burger, but it really wasn't all that.. I ordered their signature burger (Its something like "The Sobelman Burger") and after a bite, immediately scraped off the secret sauce. I think it was something like a relish of grilled onions and peppers. Whatever it was, it wasn't good.
Back into it, the meat was fine but nothing special. Really good bun on these burgers though, nice texture.
Interior decor is like a neighborhood pub transplanted up from Bay View. Lots of wood paneling, domestic beer signs. You'll dig their beer selection if you like miller or bud, I don't, so I didn't.
Best burger's I've had in town still remain the ones at the Wicked Hop (don't go on the burger special night, they grow tired of making burger then and it shows) or the Martini burger (hope you like olives) at Hi Hat.
Best burgers ever.. I've yet to find a better burger than the Sobelman burger. I eat there nearly every time I get to Milwaukee. Great atmosphere and Hacker Pschorr on tap, to boot. Order the cheeseballs.
Sobelman's is clearly a hot spot during the lunch hour. When I went, the place was slammed. I wasn't sure if I was expected to be seated by a server or seat myself (didn't see a sign). While I hesitated, looking for a server to ask about their seating policy, a busboy asked if I was looking for a seat and directed me to an open spot at the bar.
Sobelman's mgmt should give him a raise and/or promotion for solid customer service.
The bar service was equally mixed. One harried, but nice bartender greeted me and promised to return w/ my drink order (which he did).
While he was getting me my drink, the other bartender came over and asked if I'd been helped. I asked him for a menu. He directed me to THE INTERNET!!! I responded to him by asking questions about the little bar-top menu. (Describe what a Sobleman's burger has on it... etc). - Even the guys next to me laughed at how rude this bartender was.
Btw- a California burger at this place is exactly like a Whopper according to the bartender I spoke with. No avocado, no sprouts, nothing fresh.... Cheese and some sauce.
At any rate, to earn the title of "best burger", this bar has just gotten some fancy rolls for their meat. They throw a few cheese slices and pickled jalape?os on top and pair it with the cheapest limp fries that Sysco carries and viola! they serve you an average burger on a nice roll. They didn't even bother w/ the expected garnish (lettuce leaf and tomato).
To the owners- as of summer 08, the Hi Hat serves excellent fries, check them out. Also, Nessun Dorma does an excellent job of serving cheap, well-prepared food made w/ quality ingredients. According to your website, this is what you strive to do. Take what ND does and apply it to burgers. It takes more than nice rolls to make a place like this work in a questionable location and a deliberately offensive bartender.
best in town.
Finding that unique burger, not only in terms of superb flavor but served in a place that isn't in or near a mall and is frequented by locals, isn't always easy. Finding Sobelman's is a challenge but it is definitely worth it. Just order "a Sobelman's" (or a double Sobleman's if you're really hungry) and wash it down with a Sprecher Amber. That's fine livin'.
The workers are friendly and make you feel like they are glad you're there.
It's not very big but much bigger now that they've added an extra room. During Packer games, it's packed.
This is the best burger in Milwaukee, and the competition in this town is tough.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Restaurant features certified Black Angus beef patties, freshly baked rolls and sandwiches.
Milwaukee's Best Burger. This burger joint is a favorite of anyone who enters. They have recently moved the grill from behind the bar to upstairs which took away some of the atmosphere and life which was so enjoyable for so long. Even so, the burgers at Sobelmans along with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere are the best I have ever tasted. A toasted and grilled bun with peppers and onions giving the burger a little spice add to the flavors. Sobelman's has been a Marquette favorite for years because of its location in the valley. Sobelman's truly is Milwaukee's best burger if you are looking for a taste of Milwaukee this is the place to go.
Good place to visit on a cold Saturday afternoon. I was driving around Milwaukee and friends in chicago were giving me directions to Sobelmans. I found it about 1:30pm. We waited at the door for 20 minutes on a 10 degree Febuary Saturday for a table for three. Had beer and had a chance to see everything going on in the small bar. When we were seated Mrs. Sobelman was our waitress. Figered this out from the reviews from the newspaper posted in the restroom(?). Ordered burgers and fries and more beer. We spent two hours in a very relaxed bar talking to our son. He is in college in Milwaukee. Many of the people there were Marquette students and parents. Clue: caps and coats. We weren't. Plan on going back to a very relaxed place to have time to visit and eat some wholesome food.
They have the best hamburger in Milwaukee!
There fish fry is also very good.
Enthusiastic staff and great owners.
Everyone is treated like family after a few visits.
They will even serve you the fish fry on Saturday if you don't make it on Friday. Lot's of regulars customers and some good specials (but I am stuck on the fish and burger). My sister-in-law wanted a chicken sandwich and was impressed.
