a consistent favorite. we love coquette cafe. the food and service is consistently great. the setting is fantastic. it's the first place that comes to mind the moment we get a sitter lined up and plan our night out.

The "Other" French Place. Coquette is somtimes called the "other" french restaurant because it is the newer of the two high end french restaurants. But Coquette is less cold and is a better value for you money. The "around the word" menu changes every month and has had some of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The staff is always friendly and never prentious. It took two years before I found out that there is parking available behind the building.

A tad overrated. Maybe we had read too many great reviews, but we were under-whelmed. Much of the food was really good -- the thin-crust pizza and pates were wonderful. But the salade nicoise contained teeny little olives that looked exactly like black beans -- making for a very crunchy first bite -- and the rest of the salad was fairly pedestrian. We arrived 1/2 hour early and sat at the bar looking at 3 adjoining tables -- empty the entire time until we were seated at one of them -- along with the 2 other tables, which overloaded our slightly hapless server. And I hate to have to beg for another glass of wine. We've happily give up a bit of the Milwaukee friendliness for a touch of big-city competence.

French bistro food (with a splash of Mediterranean influence) is served in this bank-turned-cafe.. The Scene
Word spread quickly and anticipation grew when world-class chef Sandy D'Amato planned to open a French bistro in the historic Third Ward. Built in a former bank, the Coquette Cafe's high ceilings, large picture windows and intimate dining rooms are conducive to conversation and enjoying some incredible food.

The Food
The food at Coquette Cafe draws freely from French and Mediterranean influences. Appetizers include roasted mussels with saffron and crocks of onion soup. Entrees like coq au vin, herb-roasted chicken with rosemary, and chargrilled steak with red wine sauce are all expertly prepared and some of the best bargains in the city. Be sure to grab a glass of Coquette's Biere du Garde, made especially for the restaurant. Try the flammekuche, a delicious crisp Alsatian pizza topped with cream cheese, bacon and onion.

The Jewel of the Third Ward. Food is consistantly great! Several of the salads/appetizers are uniquely special. You can feel comfortable in anything from casual attire to very dressy. Great people watching. The only thing that needs help is the ambience of the outside dining.

Go here, you will be happy.. I can't say enough about this place. I always feel as if I've steped into a little part of Paris in WI. when I'm there. The service is great, food wonderful and you can go casual. I've taken friends, family and business clients there. I feel it's a must when I'm in the city.
