Editorial Review for Sauce – by CL Speering
In Short
The huge glass-panel front window is actually a garage door that opens up for outdoor dining in the summer. For winter, there's a wood-burning fireplace. Whatever the season, this cool space caters to a trend-setting crowd. Original artwork by local artists covers the brick walls. The menu is contemporary American, and each dish is prepared with its own sauce. After hours, Sauce turns into a swank lounge, with occasional live music and nightly drink specials.

I just wrote a review for Roots, which I visited on the same evening I visited Sauce. I would like to say that I enjoyed one of the restaurants, but they were equally disappointing in the level of boredom I experienced. First of all, same old cliched, tired "fusion" food. I'm so sick of the same old flavors: mango (which I adore) everywhere, standard French dishes adulterated with "exotic" "flair." And if I have to look at one more menu with a Chocolate Martini I'm going to fall into a coma on the spot. Is there any originality in this city? If there is, you certainly won't find it in the Third Ward--cream city brick, exposed beams, some metal beams thrown in here or there, and no tampon machine in the womens' room. The seating (tables and chairs) are cold and institutional. The fireplace is nice, but cramped by a weird bench seat for anyone brave enough to sit there on display. It's a let down. You would have a more creative and interesting experience at a KFC. Finally, there is no parking. The brilliant urban planners of the Third Ward packed the area with apartments and condos and totally forgot about parking for residents. That means the business district is aching for parking. You might find a spot after driving around for an hour, but by then you have starved to death.
Pros: It's in the Third Ward, I guess.
Cons: Cliched theme, cliched atmosphere, cliched menu.

Great atmosphere, great for a romantic date. This restaurant was very easy to find and the service was amazing. We were seated right away and it took us longer to decide what to drink because they had so many options......a good thing. The food portions were good and the taste to die for.
Pros: Great atmosphere, romantic, great food
