Always liked it but now have a concern.
My girlfriends and I have always loved Trocadero. Amazing cheese plates and drink specials. The outdoor dining area is fabulous. I try to recommend it as much as possible.... until recently.
I recommeded Trocadero to some friends of mine and asked them to meet me there. We arrived at 6:50pm and were immediately asked to see all of our ID's. I advised the hostess we were here for dinner and wanted to be in the dinning area. They showed us to our table, gave us menus and then 10 minutes later they were kicking us out. The hostess came back to the table with a manager and stated since not everyone was 21 years old we had to leave. I was in shock. I never heard of this before, especially this early in the evening. She stated that their liquor tax is lower if they do not have minors in after a certain time and that a sign is posted at the door. This sign is a hand written tiny piece of paper by the door.
Again I have always enjoyed this restaurant but this rule is a little odd, especially so early in the evening. And the embarrasement of my guests being escorted out was wrong. The hostess should have advised us of this policy when she was checking our ID's.
My suggestion would be that they get a bigger sign and politely tell people this policy when they first arrive.
It IS a french cafe.. Almost feels like Paris especially when eat on the patio (except for the tannery). Perfect for Sunday brunch. Good cheese selection and the pates are excelent. This is best value in the French category. After eating here once you will become a regular.
wonderful. I ate here with my two sisters for brunch, and the food was excellent. The staff is very friendly and we ate outside on the patio. My sister asked me if I knew why the patio was so warm, and then said that they had a heated patio. It's a perfect place to take the loved ones. I would high recommend someone to take their girlfriend or for the lady's to bring their boyfriend here. It's a very nice place, and the menu is superb!
Very Romantic. This is a great restaurant!!! The food and the wine list are superb. Great atmosphere - old narrow building, very warm and cozy. The menu is constantly changing but everything is so good. I have been there several times and have always had great service. They even have a heated outdoor patio. I would recommend this to anyone -especially as a romantic date spot - they play great music as well. Gets you in the mood for an evening out on the bar scene. I give it 5 stars *****
A charming joint seemingly plucked from Paris and plopped onto a corner just a block from Brady Street..
The Scene
The atmosphere is pure France, from the food to the coffee bar to the French-only wine list to the newsstand and tobacco shop. For coffee, stop up front. For brunch or dinner, head to the back or all the way outside to the patio (heated in the winter). For a nighttime bar scene, head upstairs. Menus are provided, but keep an eye on the chalkboard for current lists of wine, champagne, beer, cheese and daily specials.
The Food
Weekend brunch is a favorite here--with good reason. The coffee is strong and dark, served with a cube of imported sugar and a square of Vahlrona chocolate on the side. Care is taken in preparation and presentation--portions are certainly ample, but not super-sized like the corner diner. Omelettes and fritattas are filled with top-notch ingredients, but don't be surprised to see virtually everyone order the superb eggs Benedict.
