Tips for Dr Wagner's Southridge Optical

What a great office! Any of the bad comments below should just be ignored!

I just came back from an appointment at Dr. Wagner's. I heard about him from a friend and did a bit of research on my own before going ahead to make an appointment. They really do have the best prices around. In addition, the staff was outstandingly helpful and Dr. Wagner was SO nice. I will definitely be recommending him to friends!

Much like a couple of the other's that commented here, I started using Dr Wagner several year's ago after my wife's good experiences. Dr Wagner is very pleasant to work with and seems polite, friendly, and professional. My problem is with his staff. After reoccurring eye infections and corneal abrasions with a particular brand of contact, I contacted their office to see if I could try a different brand of contact. The staff appeared more concerned about pushing more product on me and selling more product than the condition of my infected eye. They wanted me to commit to another contact purchase before a different trial pair was issued to me. Now I realize some people abuse trial contacts, but they were looking at my chart and could see I'm a 1 visit every two years person, matter of fact, if I could get renewals without having to go to the Dr's office, I would. When I asked several times for Dr Wagner to call me at his earliest convenience, I was hung up on. Very Rude and Unprofessional move. Dr Wagner has lost a long time family of customers here.

I wouldn't count too much on BobL674's commentary (due to his hormones leading his opinion rather than quality service).

I have been a long term client for Dr. Wagner. When I first began going to Dr. Wagner's, everything was fine. He seemed like a nice guy with a quality practice.

The last couple of times I have visited haven't been so great. When I came in for my most recent eye exam everything was so rushed and when I had asked questions they seemed to be shrugged off. I have worked in the medical field before and I am not one of "those" clients that asks unreasonable and repetitive questions. I understand that being busy can cause somebody to get overwhelmed, but then you need to get additional staffing to provide quality service to your clients. My bill for the rushed exam was $95.

I also saw another woman attempting to ask some questions while in the waiting room to various staff members and she was brushed off as well.

Upon checkout, I was told since I was getting a free trial from a company, I would have a $30 credit for when I decided to purchase my contact lenses since some people are allergic to this type of lense. I wanted to purchase a six month supply but was told my $30 dollar credit wouldn't be honored. NOBODY had even mentioned there was an expiration date on my $30 credit or else of course, I would have stopped in sooner to purchase them!

I ended up stopping in to get a print out of my prescription and I got that sort of annoyed look from the receptionists, but I did get the printout quickly. I have never complained in my many loyal years as a client, it just seems to have gone downhill and more about money than the client.

By the way, my contacts were cheaper online. In this economy, I might as well go to Wal Mart for my eye exams, too.

Just returned from a great appointment with Dr. Wagner. Major thumbs up!

I'd ignore the few bad reviews below. I called around and these really are the best prices I could find. AND I thought the staff couldn't be more helpful (with some really hot girls too).

Avoid the business like the plague.. Avoid the business like the plague. They do not stand behind their merchandise, but rather try to blame problems on their suppliers and refer you back to them. After writing a letter directly to Dr. Wagner, a office person responded by telling me to contact my insurance even though the problem was with replacement lenses scratching because they did not put the protetive coating on that I paid for. The supplier also cut the lenses poorly which kept popping out of the frames so I had to use my added insurance to have the problem fixed. They also billed me for a contact fitting I told them I did not want. The place it a big rip off, and it is frustrating that their customer service is so poor.

I have been going to Dr. Wagner for the past two year's based off my husband's great experience. Dr. Wagner takes time with me to not only go through the general exam but also shows the inside of the my eye and talk about the actual health of the eye. He answers all of my questions to make sure I understand. I have never had an eye doctor take the time like he does. He also discovered that I do not have astigmatism and saved me a lot of money on my contacts. Recommend 100%!

I LOVE Dr. Wagner. I have been seeing him for 2 years now and couldn't be more happy and satisfied every time I walk out of the office. The staff greets you right away, takes your info (or gets it from their files if you are a repeat customer), does the preliminary exam, complete with the pics of your eyes, which is pretty cool. And then Dr. Wagner explains everything to you so that you have no more unanswered questions before you leave. He is professional, knows his stuff, funny, personable and very reassuring that he will use everything he can to get your sight better so you can get back to seeing again. Their turn around time for glasses to come back is fast, as well as contacts. And they always give "maintenance" if you stop in. Loose screw, lost nose paid, readjustments, etc. And they always give you a free set of contact lenses before leaving the appointment, which is cool. And when I lost a set or the ripped in the past they have given me a replacement pair if I stop in at not charge. I'm sorry that they other people have had such a bad experience, but I only have high praise for him and his staff. And I refer him to everyone I know who wears glasses! So far 3 have become new clients of his! Wish they gave out referral bonuses! Plus, Danny Goeke will be coming back as a spokesman in June 2012!

Total Rip-off!!!!! HUGE scam!. I went to Dr. Wagner's Optical because I had been needing glasses and found a groupon for $50, worth $180. It said the exam would be free and $150 would be applied to the cost of glasses. I picked out a nice frame, was given a prescription for bifocals and when told the price between line and no-line lenses I chose to go with the line because of $120 difference. I was charged $485 for my glasses, AFTER $150 was taken off for the groupon. When I got home my husband looked at the receipt and questioned whether they had applied the groupon. He searched for my frames and found them at several area businesses at less than 1/2 of what I paid. The MSRP on the frames is $250, not $500! I called back and asked about the groupon. I was told it was indeed applied. When I asked if it was customary to charge double the MSRP I was told they were a small, private business and charged what they had to to make money. I told her their website said all frames were 50% off with the purchase of lenses. She said only one discount could be applied. I said "Had you given me the choice of 50% off frames or a groupon discount, I certainly would have taken the 1/2 off!" She said it was my fault for not asking for that discount. So in essence, the groupon cost me $150 instead of saving me $130 as advertised. Had I received 50% off my frames, the total would have been $360. Instead, I ended up paying $550 counting what I paid for the groupon. When I said I was going to return the frames I was told they did not allow refunds, returns or exchanges once glasses had been picked up. This is a VERY unreputable business and I recommend going to Lens Crafters, Sears, Sams or any other place you can find rather than spending double the money here!

Mixed Feelings. Well, what can I say; I have very mixed feelings about this place. When I first went in and delt with Dr. Wagner I was very happy, I felt that he was very friendly, professional, and did a great job answering all my questions. I left there feeling like I had found my new place for all my eye exams. Although Dr. Wagner did an excellent job in making me feel confident and comfortable I doubt I will be returning. When I went back to pick up my contacts there was a small misunderstanding about what I was supposed to be getting. The girl at the front desk was EXTREMLY RUDE, cut me off while I was trying to explain to her my problem, and even turned her back on me while I was talking and walked away! I was so insulted and offended by this very unprofessional behavior that I doubt I will be giving them a second chance. I am curious; does his rude staff realize that there are several other opticians right there in the mall? Sorry Dr. Wagner, you need to make sure that your staff is treating your customers as well as you are.

NO Customer Service Loyalty. I've been coming to Dr. Wagner for years which resulted in an extremely unpleasant experience. I worked with Jennifer thoughout this process at least 5-6 times. Each time she would suggest "give it time" to adjust to my single vistion, then changed to bi-focal, then changed back to single. Which resulted in not being able to see clearly period. I then requested to try the bi-focals once again because I was told by other people with bi-focals that something must have been wrong that I could NOT see at all with them. I had them reorder the bi-focals and when they came in i was told it would be $240.00. because it was now past the 60 days. Jennifer never told me anything about "give it time" but do it within 60 days. so if i wanted to see clear again, i needed to pay 240.00 on top of the 300+ I have already spent. I then talked to Lizzy the office mgr. Absolutely NO managerial tactics in handling a customer that is NOT satisfied. NEVER once did she apologize for the misunderstanding Jennifer and I had with 60 days. NO way in this world did she suggest any kind of compromise. When I asked to speak to Dr. Wagner, she said he would call me back on Saturday after his last appt. It's now days later and NOT a call from him or anyone else in the office. Jennifer saw me walk in and NEVER once made any eye contact and acknowledge her customer was back, just simply ignored me. So between Jennifer the cold sales girl, Lizzy the worst manager skilled woman I've ever dealt with and Dr. Wagner NOT returning my call ever, YOU make the decision if this is the place for you. Its NOT for me ever again.
