Charming atmosphere, great steaks

My husband and I have been coming to the Alpine for more than 30 years. We have always loved the ambience, coziness, service and great food. It's truly a "retreat", nestled in the beautiful Holy Hill area, with an atmosphere that makes you really think you're in the Alps somewhere. A couple caveats: it's a little pricey, and, this restaurant has been in the same family for many years. Their patrons have been coming there for many years. Sometimes they all get caught up in chit-chatting with the "regulars". If you as a "newbie" think you're being ignored, say something!
- Pros: atmosphere, food, location
Dinner for 4

Our friends had mention to us about a cute little restaurant as we were touring the Holy Hill area, we are all from Mequon. After finding the restaurant nestled in the hill. We were starving and decided to take a chance without a reservation and stop for dinner. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. We thought we were off to a great dinner, however, our steaks were at best average. We had another disappontment, the waitstaff could have cared less if we "wanted any service" throughout our entire dinner, they were congregated elsewhere because we could hear talking, we learned latter they were conversing with a couple of bar patrons. When leaving thought the bar area, they all chimed in to say "Good Bye" as if they meant it. We were left with the feeling that we had intruded on their personal "water cooler time". Average food. No service.
- Pros: Nice setting, cozy
- Cons: Bad Service, below or average food
