****Serves endangered Blue Fin Tuna and Chilean Sea Bass!!!!****. I recently moved here from San Diego was astonished to find sushi restaurants in Milwaukee serving Bluefin and Chilean Sea Bass. I don't know if they think the people of Milwaukee are ignorant or what but out West, you be hard pressed to find these items as the are extremely frowned upon. Just be aware. Nanakusa in the Third Ward also serves Bluefin.

the worst service and the worst japanese food in Milwaukee. On 12/28/2008. My friends and I went to this restaurant. We were looking at the menu, and there is one say 'Combination' .. so we asked the server , what is the combination includes? He told us "I don't know.. sorry' .. Well.. I asked him 'Is this your first night?" He said.. no.. I just don't know.. I never have any customers ordered this before... I was like.. wah.. this is interesting. Well, if you don't know, should you go find out from someone and tell us what it is.. Ok, so I suggested him to ask your manager and find out what this is.. he looked at me.. and saying there is no Manager.. I was like.. wah.. and then he said you can ordered it, and they will make it.. I was shocked.. at the end he kind of find out what this combination is.. and we ordered it.. the dishes look ok,. Once I tasted the rice that comes with the beef teriyaki.. my god.. those rice must be at least 3 days old.. gosh.. so.. I asked the server and he went to the kitchen and came back with 3 bowls of rice.. and a chief.. (I guess he is the owner). He apologized.. with the rice.. that they messed up.. Oh well.. This is my worst dining experience ... I will not suggest anyone to go there.. If you go to the food court Japanese Chinese owned fast food, it will be much better.. trust me.

Nice decor, good service, mediocre sushi.. The restaurant itself is very nice, but we were very disappointed in the traditional maki. I admit that we frequently pick up maki at the supermarket, but, honestly, our guy at Pick-n-Save on Ogden does a tremendous job, and FAR outperforms the sushi chefs at Sake Tumi. The staff was pleasant and plentiful (lots and lots of them milling around), but they are entirely caucasian, and not one looked to be over the age of 22. I was expecting to see at least one experienced sushi chef, but the closest to it was the brunette all-american, probably a Marquette student, preparing behind the counter. We couldn't see the kitchen, but my guess would be that the majority of the staff fits that profile.

We ordered the Spider Maki ($8), Unagi Maki($7), Spicy Hotate Maki($7), and Miso Soup. The miso soup was extraordinarily salty, but not unpleasant. $3 extra, so I'd definitely avoid it next time. The spicy hotate maki was fairly good, but the quality of the scallops wasn't great. Tasted more "fishy" than fresh. The unagi was smothered in sauce, which overpowered any real flavor from the eel, but the sauce was tasty, so it wasn't a total loss. The spider maki, however, was a huge letdown. It was very loose and falling apart, and tasted fried more than anything else. The menu makes no mention of the soft shell crab being fried, but it most certainly was. There were only 3 edible cuts, as one of the ends was 90% rice, and the other contained an unpleasantly displayed bunch of tiny crab legs, which were deep-fried and contained no meat.

Overall, it's not someplace I would recommend for maki. I suspect that their fusion dishes are much better, as the chefs/owners don't seem to grasp the concept of fresh and light that are so essential when it comes to sushi maki. I might return, but not for anything containing raw fish products.

Great for the atmosphere!. I have been to Sake Tumi on three different occasions, and each time it was a pleasurable experience! The first time we went with a rather large group and between the great atmosphere, good wine, and great handcrafted rolls, we had a wonderful evening. The second and third visits were more intimate, but both came with great service, great food, and great atmosphere.

I am a major sushi lover, I have visited every sushi restaurant in MKE and the surrounding areas, and while I don't frequent this restaurant that often, I will definitely return! It's definitely not as bad as people say it is!!!

Quiet and nice sushi place. I read reviews below, and I don't know what they didn't like about that place. I absolutely love their sushi!!! The Philadelphia sushi are the best, Tempura Maki is too. I never ordered any sauce, so the sushi are good by themselves. The order always comes fast mo matter if the place is busy or not. The atmosphere is pretty sweet with all the candlelight. Prices are not that high, but not low either.

gets worse everythime i go. I have gone to Sake Tumi several times, both in large groups and small, a few times even by myself. Since I have started going there the quality of the food continues to go down , the service quality goes down and the price goes up. I live downtown and usually dont leave about a 5 block radius of my apartment, so it really disappoints me that i dont have a quality sushi place in my fishbowl. If you have access to go to any other sushi place in the city , dont come here. The sushi is bland , i order sauces every time i go. The rolls always fall apart. The servers are preoccupied doing something else. oh yeah and super expensive.

Worst Quality Fish in the City. Sake Tumi's environment is appealing...but the food is not. I ordered the Sushi Entree which is to come with chef's choice sushi, and some special makis. What I got was a plate full of Pick N' Save quality fish. The sushi fish which was a selection of red snapper, tuna, salmon, white fish, and shrimp was set atop of bed of hard crusty rice. The makis that were selected for me were two spicy tuna rolls that were bland, and looked as though they had been rolled by a five year old. The service had no idea about timing between the sushi bar and the kitchen. The people I had dined with that ordered meals from the kitchen instead of the sushi bar sat and waited for their food to be served nearly 15 minutes after my boyfriend and I had our sushi served. As I sat and ate my mediocre meal, I felt bad that I had to sit and watch as they waited for their food. Of all the sushi places that I have sampled in the Milwaukee area, Sake Tumi is by far the worse. If you really want great quality food go to Restaurant Hama and maybe even Nanakusa.

Bad sushi. I ordered the Nigiri Omakase, and it was some of the worst sushi I've ever had. The rice was completely unseasoned. The fish was alright, but it was overwhelmingly bland sushi. Completely unacceptable.

The fusion dishes might be fine, and the atmosphere was nice. Service was somewhat slow, but I was in a large party.

This is not a good place for sushi.

Worst service I have ever experienced and this was after I gave them a second chance.. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for the following: quality food, good service or a pleasant dining experience. I have eaten at Sake Tumi on several occasions. I would consider the first few occasions average at very best. The quality of food was, simply put, okay. I was however, dining with friends which made for a pleasant atmosphere. Several weeks ago, I took clients to Sake Tumi for a business lunch. There is no way for me to describe the horrible service and dining experience we endured. Our waiter was deliberately rude, arrogant and uninterested in being a server altogether. There is simply no explanation for his behavior. If the service industry is that "below" the waitstaff they should at minimum act with some self respect. The food that day was truly disgusting (maybe perhaps reflected on our disgust with our waiter). My three clients (highly paid professionals) all vowed never to return and have since echoed this sentiment. This past weekend I had a family member in town who wanted sushi for dinner. I re-considered sake tumi only for the Milwaukee street atmosphere. I will accept the blame for not having learned my lesson previously. From the moment we entered the restaurant everything went further and further downhill. The hostess forgot about our reservation, the bartenders were terrible, the wait was too long, the wait service although pleasant was TERRIBLE TERRIBLE ...twenty minutes to take order from being seated (this after flagging someone down and begging for a server and no, the restaurant was not busy), forgot our drink order, didn't bring appetizers out until we asked for them and our meals were brought at the same time, 45 minutes to get food, food not fresh, no additional serving plates. In summary I will never under any desperate circumstances return to this establishment. My review may seem harsh. I have to let readers know that my feedback was not personal. It was just my experience.
