Brothers Bar & Grill is my favorite place to go on Water Street for drinks and dancing with my girls! The staff is friendly and the drinks are CHEAP. Perfect for a college budget. They have a pretty strict dress code and bouncers to enforce it. I have seen a lot of people turned down at the door for wearing sweatpants and "White Ts". I don't know if they have the dress code posted on their website, but as long as you dress to impress, you shouldn't have any problems.
Racist Rule Enforcment. I went to Brothers last night with some friends. One of my friends was not let into the bar because his pants were "too baggy." I am a white male and my pants were baggier than his, and I was allowed into the bar without any problems. However, my friend is a black male and was immediately denied. The bouncers cited a dress code that was posted saying patrons cannot wear baggy clothes or modify their wardrobe...which they said my friend also did because he pulled up his pants. It is one thing to have a dress code and rules/policies, but they must be enforced equally and not based on race. I was completely stunned that the bouncers and manager all behaved in such a ridiculous manner. I hope people think twice before spending their money at Brothers.
staff are terrible. I probably go to this bar 2-3 times a week (for their wings, and to hang out on the weekend). Usually always a good time but the staff (especially bouncers) are complete dicks. They try to be all hard and never let anyone in. On my friends is never allowed in because his pants are too baggy (he is also african american). When he wears the same pants as his friends (who are white) he is still not let in. I understand they are doing their job but acting too hard for no reason is completely unnecessary. I (I am a girl) was escorted out of the bar because the bouncer said I was causing a scene and was too drunk. I don't drink. I was sipping on water with my friends chatting around a table. The real reason why I was escorted out was because I turned down one of the bouncers when he asked me on a date. I think it is absurd that I get kicked out a bar because I wouldn't 'sleep' with one of the workers. Needless to say, I will never be going back.
Lousy Service. Usually go there on Wednesdays for their 10 cent wing special and the only negative is that you have to wait in line for a long time. Went there on 1/7/09 and wasn't allowed to enter because the bouncers said my jeans were "too baggy." I asked them what they were talking about and they said they have a "strict dress code." That is not true because I have been there with the same pair of jeans on more than one occasion and that has never been a problem. They then showed me there so called strict dress code and I couldn't help but notice that most of the rules fit a certain group (race) of people (i.e no neckware showing, no tipped hats, no baggy jeans, no sleeveless shirts, etc.). The friends I was there to meet up with were so upset that they got out of line and we went somewhere else to eat. I then called the manager the next day and he acted as though he didn't care. I DEFINITELY will not be going back there.
Same experience happened for me. I normally don't care to review anything but when I noticed someone else had a similar experience to mine I had to write. Basically same thing. I walked in..sat at the bar upstairs. Apparently someone had ownership of an open chair because while waiting 20 minutes for our drinks a guy came back swearing at me and threatening me for his chair. I respectfully said I would be out of his way in a few seconds. He then shoved me and said move or he'd move me. I said again..chill out man...he then said fine...went and got someone on the security staff...and had me and my group removed. Apparently he was another security guy that works there. Never was given an explanation and when I asked to speak with a manager I was given a response of..."He's bartending, he doesn't have time for your a$$." Which I thought was very welcoming. I will never return to this place again. Thanks Brothers.
Brothers, where a**holes pick fights to show you that they're better..
Bad experience this time ... We went on a Saturday night and just as we entered the bar and walked upstairs, some guy pushed my friend Matt from the back walking up the stairs. This was ignored and my friends kept walking up. Then the a**hole started saying he'd beat up my other friend, Jeff, to which Jeff responded "I'm sure you could. But I'm too drunk to deal with you right now, so let's just let it go." By that point, they got up to the JAM PACKED 2nd floor. A**hole pushed Jeff into me and the rest of the crowd, enough to get the whole crowd's attention. I yelled to stop and asked if we knew him, so he decided that I was his next target. And then I realized that he had another burly friend with him taking his side. We kept telling him to go away, that no one was trying to pick a fight, so instead he declared that he was going to have us kicked out. So he finally left, went and got his friend that worked in the bar and had us escorted out. On the way out I talked to the 'bouncer' skinny guy who wouldn't listen that we hadn't done anything, just insisted that we had to leave. I asked him who the two a**holes were, though, and he said one of them was a bartender at another bar; must have been one of his friends.
Anyways, the whole thing was so f*cked up that I had to write a review. Some jack*ss is trying to pick fake fights and Brothers backs him up. Goes right along with Brothers notoriety for having purses and wallets stollen on the dance floor.
