2 days of illness. Ugh.

2 days down with food "illness" after a meal at La Merenda. Went there with my girlfriend- we ate the same things. We were both healthy before, and both have the same symptoms for food p___ning.

Will never go back. Beware.

cityserach censors the "p" word. You know what I mean

Favorite Restaurant. The best tasting food in Milwaukee...hands down! Great relaxed atmosphere and interesting menu. Every item we tasted was absolutley delicious. The banana chocolate egg rolls were heavenly!

Finally! Tapas!!. Just ate at La Merenda with some girlfriends last night - it's a great spot for a 'girls night'. We were a little disappointed to find out that the 2 things we wanted to try most were 'unavailable' - the lobster ceviche, and the spare ribs, BUT the waitress told us about the shrimp and pineapple ceviche special that was an excellent replacement. It had large chunks of shrimp, with pineapple and the regular salsa fixin's tangy and sweet, served with tortilla chips. We also had the tenderloin with mashed sweet plantains - excellent, the polenta wedges with mushroom ragut - unbelieveable! (crispy on the edges, and moist and delicious on the inside)

the fried plantains weren't the thin potato chip-like strips I expected, instead they were thick, fried 'coins' that were crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside...still good, but not enough guacamole provided for dipping. The best thing we had was papapatas ---....(spelling?) it's fried potatoes with a spicy tomato saucy-coating (not heavy) and then a little bit of a cream sauce drizzled on....YUM!!!

They also have great sangria- we had both the peach and the red.

La Merenda has plenty of street parking, conveniently located just off National Ave on 1st/KK...and the service was quick and pleasant.

I'll be back again, and again to try it all!
