Tips for Pewaukee Veterinary Service

Great care for life. My dog has be under the care of the Doctors and staff of Pewaukee Veteinary Service since she was 5 weeks old. "Fudge" is now almost 16 and is great shape for a dog her age. We are enjoying the time we have with the eldest member or our family and want to thank Dr. Tom Hirth for taking such good care of her.

Never go there! We got charged for services that we specifically said we did not want. Once we got home and realized this after looking more closely at the bill, my husband called to talk about it. The lady refused to take off the services we said we did not want. When my husband asked if they would rather lose our business over this the lady replied with "yes." He then requested that the vet call him that day to talk this over and the lady on the other end hung up on him! Worst customer service ever and we never received our money back!

My dog and I love this clinic. In the years I've gone there, I've had to wait for an available room a few times, but a clinic that is that busy must be doing something right to keep the clients coming! I feel like they have everything in one place- boarding (and she can get a haircut while there too!), dental cleanings, a holistic doctor, etc. It's worth the drive!

Too busy, too greedy..however good care when finally seen.. Pewaukee Veterinary Service is far too busy for our liking. We waited about 50 minutes PAST our scheduled appointment , and 55 after we had arrived, before our pet was seen. After 30 minutes in the waiting room, we were taken to an exam room and waited another twenty minutes. I had to let our puppy chew on a rubber key chain b/c he was getting so restless. When the vet tech finally came in all that was said was, "sorry we're a little backed up." The lobby was empty when we got there, and when we left there was one person at the desk and again the waiting room was empty, yet they were too busy to see us at the scheduled time or let us know if there were an emergency and there'd be a bit of time before we were seen. Other vets have given us the option to reschedule when that situation has arisen. Our time was of no concern.

Then when he had a reaction to his vaccines I was put on hold for ten minutes and had to hang up and call back to be able to speak with someone. I was told to bring him back in because of his size. Had he been a larger dog they said he would have been ok vomiting once. They were prompt with seeing him when we got there, and very concerened once we were in the exam room, though they seemed confused. He was given a shot of benedryl and what I was told was 'asprin for dogs.' I was told we were not being charged for an office visit, but for the medications. I called today to discuss the bill, and was told the only thing they could take off was the office visit. We were told we were not being charged for that.

Every othere office we have talked with said they do not charge for those medications when it is needed due to an allergic reaction. My sister's dog had a more severe reaction and her veterinary office did not charge anything when we had to take him back in.

We discussed it and decided this office, though the waiting room had always been empty when we were there, they were too busy to see us on time. The billing just reaffirmed our decision. They are friendly, and I am sure the doctors are very capable and kind, however when I hear from multiple friends and offices that in the situation we had, it would have been handled differently I am certain we made the right decision to switch to a more personable office.

Above quality care and staff. I have been with this clinic for 10 years and thru 4 dogs. Referred there when the last vet couldn't figure out problem and PVS had the equipment. He had cancer, the vet transfused his own dogs blood to get our dog thru surgery. He bought us 3 months. The care and empathy was outstanding! Our second dog had problems after hours - called vet at home, monitored and advised him 1 hr later I was going to emerg clinic. 20 minutes and one xray later, my vet was standing with the staff to tell me they had to do surgery to save my dog's life and he was scrubbing in to help. Wow beyond what I would have expected! Their expertise, all staff are caring, is why I send all my friends and coworkers there. Beyond care anywhere else! would HIGHLY recommend their skills are way above the rest!

I drive 30 Miles to take my dog there. Brought my (then) 1 yr old border collie in because she was moving slowly, wasn't running, and was huffing a lot. After a workup including X-rays, it was determined she had a back issue. I got several options, including surgery, physical therapy, acupuncture, and medications. I was given benefits and drawbacks of each. I chose PT and acupuncture. It worked great. My dog is now five, with full mobility, and shows no signs of distress with her previous injury.

I haven't found anyone else in the area that offers this range of services. I received a CD of her X-rays for my own records, as well as an online records access and online scheduling. With multiple doctors, you can choose the treatment optiosn you want. They have the equipment that they do not need to out-source much of anything. Their late evening hours are very helpful. Now that I've moved from Pewaukee to St Francis, I could go to any number of vets nearby.

I'll go the extra distance for PVS.

Hands Down The Best!. PVS is by far the best veterinary clinic in the area. As a loyal customer since the early 1980's, I would never think of going anywhere else. Dr. Jeff Schuett has been my K-9's primary physician and has provided nothing but stellar service over the years. Thanks to their thorough yearly checks, my current K-9's anaplasmosis was detected, treated and monitored. PVS' staff is friendly and well trained. Follow up communication after diagnosis has always been prompt and they even call to see how she's doing! Wish my own doctor did that! They keep abreast of the latest technology and offer services that are beyond compare. All said, PVS offers doctors that are leading the curve on the latest technology, employ more than competent staff and have really good treats... my dog wanted me to add that!

Wonderful Staff-Great Hospital!. New to this online review thing. We never do this but wanted to share our recent experience & how much we appreciate all PVS does for us and our pets over the years. We have alot of pets and all have been there one time or another to see the docs - if it isn't due to our lab eating our kids toys then our cat needs stitches. It's always something. The staff was wonderful when we called in a panic recently about our golden - got us in right away even though they had no appointments available. Ended up she needed surgery which they did the same day and their staff helped us every step of the way until she could go home. They even called to follow-up how she was doing & if we had any questions. She's fine now and no worse for wear (no more jumping off our deck for a while) - we have many friends we referred and now go to them. They really do care-great group of people. We'll be back for annual exams next month!

Lousy Business Practices. Had gotten quote to do dental work on our cat. Two days before, the appointment, they call and give us another quote 40% higher than a quote, already competative with other locations. Said "we are just trying to be honest". Really?!?!?! Honesty is giving a quote and then increasing it right before you come in!?!? NO - honesty is honoring the quote they provided.at the time of consult. After reading other reviews here and other locations, I am glad we are cancelling and going elsewhere. LOUSY way to run a business. Staff less than impressive

PVS is the best!. I've been bringing my pets to PVS for over 12 years. We have seen multiple vets at PVS over the years and all but one has been totally awesome with my babies. One benefit of PVS is that if you like a vet that is conservative and cautious, you will find them here. If you prefer a vet that is up on the latest treatments and experimental medicine, you will find them here. If you want a vet that prescribes natural remedies, you will find them here. Their hydrotherapy, accupuncture, and massage therapy programs are awesome. There are few places that offer as many services as PVS. And the staff is fabulous. They never make you feel like your inconveniencing them and they will go out of their way to accomodate you. My babies are extremely important to me and I would not trust anyone else with their care.
