I also created an account here in an attempt to get the word out about this crummy place (as well as report them the WI State Health Dept.). Called in advance to schedule an appointment for a friend of mine and myself to get a mani/pedi together. The receptionist demanded we pay, over the phone, at the time of scheduling - never done that before for a nail salon and was a bit leery, but did so regardless. Upon arrival, the 2 ladies behind the counter barely glanced at us and we had to stand at the counter staring at them until they looked up and finally said "oh, hi, do you have an appointment?". We waited 15 minutes and were shuffled to this tiny back room where we had to leave our purses, coats, and shoes unattended, on the floor (it's winter in WI there's slush and salt all over everyone's floors). We weren't able to sit by each other during the mani/pedi - which was kind of the point in scheduling us both at the same time (you know, hang out, girl time, chat and catch-up). Both of our manicurists talked non-stop about their personal lives and some other rather inappropriate conversation topics that made sitting there rather awkward. Took almost 2 hours for both of us. Nearing the end of my manicure, this tiny back room started filling with customers who had no where to go or put their things and were just standing around the nail tech tables, again, awkwardly. Then my manicurist started rushing (apologizing, but saying she "really needed to get her next client in the chair") and promoting he hair cutting services. Upon finishing my manicure, I was waved off to sit in a hair stylists chair until my poorly painted nails dried on their own. This took an additional 30 minutes, because (for whatever reason) my nail tech put nail repair gel on as a base coat. So the actual experience of going there was terrible. Fast forward 36 hours, my nail polish completely peeled off from every nail in layers (damaging my nails beyond repair until they grew out) and both my friend and I got skin infections. Seriously, no doubt, by far the grossest, most inappropriate nail salon I've ever been to and they have the audacity to call themselves a "spa". Anywhere else is better, really.
My time at East Town Spa has been nothing but enjoyable. The staff has always been kind and attentive and I would highly recommend them to any of my friends or family members looking for a place to relax and be pampered!
I created an account here so I could
help steer people clear of this awful establishment.
My friend and I dropped in for impromptu pedicures. It ended with me hobbling through downtown with no shoes on and polish that only lasted 5 minutes before it was ruined.
I emailed and detailed our awful experience to the salon. No one responded. I posted pics of my messed up nails to their FB page and finally got a call. She explained they would refund $12, the cost of the polish. I felt that wasn't fair since I had paid more than three times that amount and had the expectation it would last a couple of weeks. She checked with 'the boss' and left me a cheery voicemail explaining "they would refund the $12," and to let her know, "if I had more questions...m'kay?!"
To nickel and dime an unhappy customer is just terribly bad business. There are so many other great salons in Milwaukee. Don't waste your time or money here.
I have been going to this salon for a few years and love the facility. The beautician/hair stylist I see is Joslyn and she is amazing. I have been seeing her for over ten years because she is a great person, excels at her profession and keeps educated on all the new techniques. I have now started a new generation by bringing my 4 year old to see Joslyn as well. We love "mommy-daughter day" when we can go visit Joslyn in the PINK HOUSE that is East Town Spa!
This is the best salon! My mom goes here and she brought me here to get my hair done and i absolutely loved the way that Joslyn did my hair. I recommend too all people that you go to this salon!
I purchased a groupon for East town spa. I didn't know what to expect but I was impressed beyond belief. Rachel gave me a facial and it was by far the best I have ever recieved. Customer service was excellent. I loved the products and most impressive is the atmosphere. I definately will return.
The best Hair Salon in Milwaukee! I have been a client of Joslyn's for 11 years now and will continue to be forever. The products used in my hair are amazing! I always get done to my hair exactly what I ask for, and never leave unhappy. The customer service is great, the rewards program they have is the best and the products are always available when needed, and at a reasonable price. I have referred many friends and family to East Town Spa and will continue to do so.
Great Shellac Manicure.
I LOVE Shellac manicures and was having trouble finding a spa in my neighborhood (downtown/lower east side) that offered them. I had procrastinated, as usual, to get one done for my engagement photos. I needed one asap! The day before, driving east on Wells, I noticed a building being painted a pretty pink color, and for the first time noticed the East Town Spa. I called with my short-notice request, and the receptionist was friendly and accommodating. I was able to get in the next day at the exact time I needed!
The service itself was lovely. The spa was clean and organized and I felt relaxed throughout the service. Boobi-Jo was my nail technician. She was friendly and very skilled at her job. It was one of my best Shellac manicures ever!
I will definitely return to East Town Spa for another Shellac manicure and will try their other services as well!
Couples Massage. My husband and I had our first daughter this past Jan. (2011) thought it would be great to get a couples massage last March after calling place after place i finally found east town spa who did couples massages! First off the receptionist was very nice she took our coats asked if we wanted something to drink and was super friendly. We purchased a 60 min. massage thinking that we would get a 60 min. massage especially for the expensive price! nope our appointment started over 5 min. late and ended 10min. early... now to me that's not right.... for 190.... and getting a 45min. massage. The second most diappointing was that you could hear the salon music through the whole massage! Last annoying part is they only did one side of your body and no foot massage... i guess i'm just used to massage places up north where a 60min. massage means 60min. and quiet and works our all the kinks in your body and the "spa" experience.. i guess i just have to say that i will not be returning to East Town Spa in Milwaukee
Finally Found a New "Home"- Amazing Talent & People!. After 5 years @ my former 3rd Ward salon, I needed a real change! I researched & tried 2 of the city's "hot spot" salons only to be greatly disappointed by the creativity of the cuts or by the stylists themselves (or both). After reading about the East Town Spa, I am so happy to finally find a new "HOME"!!! Have had both cuts & color treatment by both Liza & Dana and am hooked! To me, the true sign of a great stylist is when you can discuss your needs & then let them just do their hair "thing"! Every time I get a cut done, I get TONS of compliments & always feel great! Also, everyone on their staff from the receptionist to the owner is always friendly & professional. Prices are reasonable & they always have great specials too! So happy to have found them!
