Nice view, mediocre to bad food, on its way out..
I took my wife here for Valentine's day as a surprise. The view from 19 floors up in Downtown Milwaukee was exceptional and overall a fun experience.
This restaurant is due to close permanently in April 09.
The food (Salmon) is mediocre, worth maybe a fifth of what I paid. The portion size was small, the seasoning/sauces was bland and dull, the greens on the side were tasteless. My carrot smelled spoilt. My wife's mushroom pasta was pretty good, actually. The bread was soft and yummy. The bill with tip was $80 for two people.
Aside from the experience which was truly unique in Milwaukee, I don't think I would ever go there again for the food, which only had a few items on the menu, anyway. This place is closing in a couple of months, and it is clearly ready to make an exit.
I will never go back!. I brought my family and our friends who were visiting from Mexico. I have never been more disappointed in a meal. There are exactly 7 entrees on the menu including 1 vegetarian entree. The prices are ridiculous-$26.00-$38.00 for the most mediocre food I've had in a long time and that does not include soup or salad. Good vegetables make the meal for me and my Walleye was not only unremarkable but only included a small amount of cooked greens between the two small pieces of fish. The service was like a fast food restaurant. I had to wait for a our food before I saw the waitress again to ask for more hot water for my tea. For 7 people our bill, which included only one beer, was exactly $250.00--$40.00 tip was included on the bill. I figure the waitress makes at least 3-4x what I make per hour. If you want to see the view have a drink at the bar but don't waist your money on the food and the poor service with a mandatory 20% tip!!
The only thing going for it is the view.
Many things were disappointing, and it was obvious that if the view was not there to attract customers, the restaurant would have undergone renovations and staff changes a long time ago just to keep people coming. The chairs were uncomfortable, the plates had grey marks on them from being so old and the windows were dirty. The decor was also old and uninspiring, and portable serving tables were left in the open. One of the female staff spilled water everywhere when she was pouring.
The food was mediocre - salmon was OK but they had the same undercooked vegetables for both this and the rib-eye steak, which was unimpressive. The steak was unevenly cooked. Shrimp ravioli wasn't bad.
3 good things were the bread, the entrees being served in a timely fashion and the nice waiter.
The entree prices range from $26 to about $40
Polaris Restaurant. Great little restaurant for those who are tourists. The spinning restaurant is at the top of the Hyatt and it over looks the city of Milwaukee. We went here at night, so it was neat to see the city lights. Service was great, very friendly and talkative. We only ordered drinks and tirisimu. Good food, but if you are the motion sickness type, just be careful. I liked how it was unique, but the spinning restaurant might not mix well with food and drinks.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Locals dine on prime rib, steak and pasta as they enjoy views of the city from a romantic revolving restaurant.
Romantic and Great Rib Roast!. Great rib roast! The rib roast was juicy and spiced well and cooked exactly the way I wanted it. The best steak I ever had. My girlfriend and I went for valentine's day she did not like the place two years ago but was also very impressed with the steak and service. Great for special occasion dining and best veiw of milwaukee. I will definitely return.
True Perspective. I think the best perspective of downtown Milwaukee is definitely from Polaris. For romantic evenings, family dinners, or just grabbing a bite at a fun destination, Polaris is perfect for all of these. Check it out! You won't be disappointed.
Only OK. I picked this hotel because of the Hyatt name and good downtown location. The parking was expensive and the room was only fair. The bathroom grout was all moldy-gross! I ate at the Pilsner restaurant in the hotel and had slow service and a very stained coffee cup.
Very Romantic. This was a lovely dining experience. I loved the atmosphere and the food was great.
SPINNING. THIS RESTAURANT HAS THE BEST ATMOSPHERE. WHERE ELSE CAN YOU DINE HIGH ABOVE A CITY AND ENJOY THE SPECTACULAR VIEW AND DINE. SIMPLY THE BEST.
