Great atmosphere, but the tap beer is horrid!.
There's no doubt Hooligans is a east side Milwaukee attraction; most nights the place is nearly full.
If you're going there for the atmosphere, to catch the game, or to meet up with friends it's a winner...But if you're there to sample a few of dozens of beers on tap - then stay away!
On multiple visits I had the displeasure of drinking what I thought would be a fine brew - however what I had gotten was an abomination due to the lack of flushing of the beer lines.
Terrible fish fry. Recently tried 2 of the fish fries. 1 lake perch, 1 walleye. The fish was cold and greasy, as if it had been held a long time. The potato pancake was a thick, flabby, brown puck, also cold. I don't believe it could ever have been crisp. These fish fries were not cheap and I was very disappointed. It was surprisingly bad considering they do a nice job with burgers.
Best nachos in Milwaukee. I first ate here on a recommendation of a friend. and have been a fan ever since. The food at Hooligan's is great and the ingredients are always fresh. I've had a lot of the items on the menu, but the best item by far are the Nachos. They are huge and topped with a metric ton of cheese, black olives, diced tomatoes, green onions (chicken is optional). Make sure you have a partner to eat them with because it's a pretty big helping. The beer selection is good and the staff is very friendly. The only downside is that it gets really busy by about 7:00pm, so arrive early.
Great Bar. Hooligan's is a great place to drink beer from anywhere in the world. The food is good and there is always sports on. But the real reason I wrote this review can be summed up in two words; BOOT RACE! Hooligan's has giant glass boots that equal between 8 and 9 beers. Bring at least 4 people. Order two boots of whatever you want on tap. Two man teams chug the boot as fast as you can. My team record is 2 min. and 18 sec. Each team do 2 boots and you will be good for the rest of the night.
This legendary institution broadcasts all the important games while serving up myriad microbrews and great grub..
The Scene
This Eastside landmark has resided in the triangle-shaped building on North Avenue since 1936. The best sporting events of the moment and NTN trivia air on 12 televisions. College kids filter in later in the evenings, but for the most part, it's a good mixed crowd and remains one of the best places to just relax and hang out with a group of friends.
The Draw
Pull up a bar stool and order from more than 30 microbrews, including Leinie Honey Weisse and domestics such as Sam Adams and Killian's Red. Imported drafts and a full bar stocked with flavored vodkas and fine liquors cover all the bases. A full menu features the best pub grub in town: salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken and steak. There's even a fish fry each Friday.
One of my favorite bars!. Hooli's is a great place for couples or small groups of people (no more than six). It gets a little crowded from time to time but overall, it's one of my favorite places to go for food, beer, and games in the entire city.
good irish time. Never had a bad time at this place. Unique bar, people are friendly, nice client tel
obscure mating sounds in mens room. great place to recapture your youth,if you can run all the bad wittnesses away bring your buddies from school and your wallet and party
Drink your way around the world. Even though Ive got no interest in sports, I spent a lot of time at Hooligans during college. The beer selection is fantastic (dont forget to sign up and drink your way around the world.) The pub grub is solid, as well. Try the hooli burger its topped with BBQ sauce and all sorts of condiments (including, oddly, olives). This place is really big on St. Patrick's Day.
