Great atmosphere and margs - Very deceptive business practices
by DanfromMilw at Citysearch
Great atmosphere. Very good margaritas. Food is average. As stated already, BEWARE OF THE AUTOMATIC SERVICE CHARGE (regardless of your party size)!! I have been going to La Fuentes for over 10 years. However, due to this very questionable business practice, I will no longer visit this establishment. Please note, the receipt that you initially receive with your total does state that there is a service charge added (which is less than we normally tip). However, the receipt you sign for a credit card transaction does not state this. In addition, the server will NEVER point this fact out to you when you get the bill. Of course after receiving their 40% tip (as has happened twice to myself and my wife), your server will just walk away feeling that this was what was intended. In summary, La Fuentes has a great atmosphere with excellent margaritas. However the average food and deceptive business practices make this a below average dining experience.
- Pros: Margs and Outdoor patio
- Cons: Hidden Service Charges - Average Food
Worst Mexican Resturante in Milwaukee
by TurtleWI at Citysearch
Waitress told our table our food took so long because of my side of mole sauce. Funny thing was she forgot to bring me my mole sauce. The margaritas are no tasty at all and the food was just average. Do not wast your time here unless you can bring in your own food to their nice patio.
- Pros: Nice Patio
- Cons: Maragrita, Food and Service
Good drinking environment; Fun atmosphere
by jayoldenburg at Citysearch
I love after work drinking during the summer at this restaurant. The outdoor area is spacious. This is the Mexican restaurant where the suburbians come for Mexican. Food is just okay. Expect a social environment that is good for group dining.
- Pros: Most social Mexican food dining in Milwaukee
- Cons: Loud environment and food is nothing special

Deceptive tipping policy
by jillianjordan at Citysearch
My husband and I have been frequenting La Fuente for over 12 years., before the numerous expansions. We go there at least once a week. It was our favorite Mexican restaurant. We have noticed a gradual decline in friendlyness, service, and food preparation. We have owned restaurants in other states, so , we know quite alot about the restaurant business. We think it is cheesey to charge for refills on soft drinks. It cost them about 10 cents. The biggest gripe we have is their new deceptive practice of tipping. They have added a service charge onto your bill, which unless you look carefully you don't see at first. Our waitress didn't bother to tell us aboout it either, When they bring your credit card receipt to sign, they again have a blank space for the tip. If you do not notice this you will be charged 15% and then another 20% if you are as generous as we normally are. When we questioned our server about this practice, she said that we look at the people, and if they look like good tippers, we will tell them to ignore the service charge, otherwise we say nothing. We are in our 50's well dressed, and white coller professionals, but, she evidently misjudged us. Guess what they got their lousey service charge in stead of our normal 20%. When we asked to speak to a manager, he wasn't there . I find that also unusual as the place was packed. If I ever go back I will tell everyone I see to check their bill. The people above are right, it is a more enjoyable experience at Botano's up the street.
- Pros: patio
- Cons: service charge hidden in bill

It was Cinco de Mayo today,,,,, everthing went wrong today. We were crossed off the seating list., were then were seated outside more like left outside.2 hours later we were served cold food and the wrong food. We were told the kitchen was having issues.....but we were not told that the waiter was having issues to. He never checked on us, 2 meals went back wrong and cold. Becuase we never checked on us we did not order 2 more meals. The bus boy brought us water and silverware and salsa. Although when the check was given he put his tip on the bill even though only 3 people ate. It was the worst service ever and considering it was my idea to go their I would not reccomend this resturant again to anyone. That is turely sad because i did like it alot!!!
- Pros: the bus boy
- Cons: waiter and management

Rainbow Margaritas

I'm not a fan of mexican food, but I enjoyed my experience. I was told to go here, it was pretty pricey, but I guess it was because we ordered a lot of pitchers of margaritas. You get a lot of food also. Service was not great, even though it was exteremly busy, waitress kept forgetting things.
- Pros: Variety of Food
- Cons: Busy, Poor Service
Try somewhere else

I used to frequent La Fuente on a regular basis, however I think the quality of their food and their service has gone downhill in the past year. It is too crowded and once you do get a seat, they are in a big hurry to get you out of there. For lunch, it may be better, but for dinner I really don't want to be rushed to eat and run. One of my friends had his Mexican family in town visiting, and was literally asked by the waiter if they were "going to leave soon", shortly after finishing their meal while they were enjoying a drink. Botanas just down the street is also busy, but their service is much better.
- Pros: good margaritas
- Cons: crowded, bad service, rushed atmosphere
